NEW TESTAMENT

Romans 5 and 6

5:3 We glory in tribulations knowing that they worketh patience.

6  Faith is the key to salvation.
Baptism has to be by immersion as it is a symbol of re-birth.

BOOK OF MORMON

3 Nephi 2

People forgot and Satan had hold of them again.
100 years had passed since the days of Mosiah.
609 since Lehi.
9 since the signs of Christs birth.  This is how they kept time from now on.  So it's 9 years.
12 years the Nephites and Lamanites had to take up arms against the Gadianton Robbers as they were getting really bad.
End of the 13th year the righteous Lamanites joined the Nephites to stop the wickedness.  Then they turned white.
By 15th year they weren't in a good spot.  Needed to be more righteous.

ENSIGN

'Relief Society History:  A look at the Lord's vision for His daughters'

The ability to receive and act on personal revelation is the single most important skill we can acquire in this life.
With it we cannot fail, without it we cannot succeed.
We learn from our history that strong families are not an accident.

CONFERENCE TALKS

'Perfect love casteth out Fear'  by Elder L. Tom Perry

We need to be bold about our belief in Jesus Christ.  He is the central figure in all history.
We need to be righteous examples.
Speak up about the church.  It's always better for them to ask than for you to tell.  Listen and engage in a two-way conversation.
Avoid arguing for becoming defensive in any way.
NEW TESTAMENT

Romans 3 and 4

3  Since we all sin, no-one can be justified by works alone.  Some intervening power must bridge the gap.  Jesus Christ was the answer.  He's our grace.  God's blessing are worth more than a man's good works could ever earn.
4  No man can earn salvation on his own.  We need to pay the price of faith.  Faith that includes enduring works of righteousness.  We need to conform our lives to gospel standards.  Only was possible to have this kind of faith.
We are justified of faith and works, through grace.

BOOK OF MORMON

3 Nephi 1  (Son of Nephi who was the son of Helaman)

91st year.  600 years since Lehi left.
Nephi left and gave his son, Nephi the brass plates and all the other records.
Nephi was never seen again.
92nd year more signs were happening but the wicked thought the time had past and started mocking the righteous.
The wicked set aside a day to kill all the righteous for the sign of the full light day with no night was not happening.
The the sign happened and some of the wicked fell to the earth cause they knew they were wrong.
More part of the people were converted to the Lord even though Satan worked hard.
The Gadianton Robbers still caused havoc.
The rising generation of the Lamanites started not believing  and some Nephites took off to join the Gadianton robbers.

NEW TESTAMENT

Romans 1 and 2

Paul served for over 20 years and baptised 1000's.
The letters to Galatians and Rome are used these days for the false doctrine of other churches of works being unessential for salvation.
But the Jews were relying on their works to save them.  This isn't right either.
There's a middle ground.
Paul shows that true faith requires personal righteousness and obedience to gospel principles, a truth overlooked by the 'faith alone' theory.
This letter may have been written in winter AD 57-58 in the end part of his third mission.
This letter was written to the saints who already had a knowledge of the gospel.  So to those who don't, it's really hard to understand.
Spencer Kimball in 'Miracle of Forgiveness' pg 80-86 talks about homosexuality and it's awesome.  I loved reading it.
Romans 2:13 The doers shall be justified.  Paul clearly state that good works are important.

BOOK OF MORMON

Helaman 16

Some believed Samuel and found Nephi and confessed and were baptised.
Others tried to throw stones and shoot arrows at him and couldn't hit him.  More were converted.
This whole time Nephi had been preaching as well.
Others thought it was the power of the devil that stopped them from being able to hit him.
They ran to get him and he jumped off and ran back to his town and was never heard of again.
End of the 86th year.
90th year signs of the prophets started happening.
End of the book of Helaman.

#2  Repentance means striving to change.
#3  Repentance means not only abandoning sin but also committing to obedience.
#4  Repentance requires a seriousness of purpose and a willingness to persevere even through pain.
#5  Whatever the cost of repentance, it is swallowed up in the joy of forgiveness.
NEW TESTAMENT

Manual Chapter 38 Galatians

True freedom can only be found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Letter to the Galatians may have been written in the 3rd mission of Paul from Corinth in AD 57.
Paul stood up to Peter about the Jews still practicing the mosaic law when it was to be done away with.  Peter agreed.
The Mosaic law was a fantastic tutor for the saints to help them mature until they got the full gospel when Christ came.

BOOK OF MORMON

Helaman 15

Nephites were blessed with the knowledge from the beginning so more is expected out of them.
The Lamanites weren't convererted till alter so less is expected and even when they turn they won't be fully destroyed.
So does that mean the same for those of us who are born into the covanent?
Is more expected of me than a convert since I was raised in it?
Maybe right?

NEW TESTAMENT

2nd Corinthians 11-13

13:1  .....by the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses shall every word be established.
The second epistle of the Corinth was written from Philippi, a city of Macedonia.
In chapter 12 the man Paul refers to is himself.
I need to bear my trials well, one day I'll understand.
Suffering or 'school of experience' as John Taylor liked to put it.
Why trials?  So we can learn to place our dependance on God and trust Him.

BOOK OF MORMON

Helaman 14

5 more years and then Jesus will come.
There'll be great lights from heaven.  It'll be light all night.  A new star will rise when he's born.  Some will fall to the earth.
Signs of His death will be that the sun, moon and starts will be darkened and there'll be no light for three days until He's risen from the dead.
There'll be thunder and lightnings for hours.  Earthquakes, tempests, mountains made low, valley's made into mountains, cities gone, highways broken up, graves opened and saints appearing to many.
We're free to act.
We're free to choose good or evil.

CONFERENCE

'It is better to look up'  by Elder Carl B Cook

If we can 'look up' to God for help we won't feel overwhelmed with the burdens of life.  We must have the faith to look up and the courage to follow His direction.
Looking u p is a metaphor for remembering Christ.
As we remember Him and trust in His power, we receive strength through His Atonement.
The Lord leads us through prophets and apostles as well as feelings after a heart felt prayer, repentance, keeping the commandments and the Holy Ghost.
We must act upon direction received.

In the big picture there are worlds without number.  Man is nothing.............yet the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.  We are the reason God created the Universe.

The Lord uses a scale very different from the world to weigh the worth of a soul.
Always remember ................we matter to the Lord.
NEW TESTAMENT

2nd Corinthians 1

The Lord may call upon us to bear afflictions and tribulations so that we may become as he desires us to be.

CONFERENCE 2011 October

'Counsel to Youth' by Pres. Boyd K Packer

Satan is determined to disrupt our Heavenly Father's plan and seeks to control the minds and actions of all.
Gender is an essential characteristic and was established in that premortal existence.
All beings who have bodies have power over those who don't.
The voice of the Spirit comes as a feeling rather than a sound..........listen for that voice that is felt rather than heard.
The gift of the Holy Ghost, if you consent, will guide and protect you and even correct your actions.  It is a spiritual voice that comes into the mind as a thought or feeling put into your heart.
The outcome of the 'battle' that began in the premortal life is not in question.  Lucifer will loose.

The Lord gives us gifts of the Spirit so we may bless, encourage and strengthen one another in love.
Spiritual gifts are made active by Charity.

We have to love people.
My biggest weakness is my temper.  I need to start asking for help with it.

Chapter 10

Relief Society is about service.  Receiving and giving.
When Dad died the Relief Society sisters came and did everything for us.  They cleaned, collected mail, bought food over.  They took care of everything so all we had to do was mourn.  I need to remember this and make sure I give this kind of service when I'm called.
You are called by the voice of the prophet of God to do it, to be uppermost to be the greatest and the best, the purest and the most devoted to the right.
This is the end of the book.
I LOVED it.

It enlightened my soul.

We need to be spiritually prepared in the the gospel.  Fear is the opposite of faith.  Do not be afraid.
Do not look for the world for help.
Looking for a higher source for knowledge and power can help us far more than relying on the wisdom of the world.
The New Testament has 27 books and a little more than 400 pages.
We need to be spiritually connected to the right source and have the knowledge and ability to use the power we receive.

OCTOBER CONFERENCE 2011

Way to receive personal revelation is clear.
* Desire to receive.
* Don't harden your heart.
* Ask in faith.
* Truly believe we'll receive the answer.
* Diligently keep the commandments.
I need to do my duties in humility and faith.
The Holy Ghost satisfies and fills up every longing of the human heart and fills up every vacuum.
When I am filled with that Spirit ........... my soul is satisfied.
I need to be praying for faith
We must nourish and strengthen our testimonies in order that it will have sufficient power to sustain us.

NEW TESTAMENT

1st Corinthians 11

Marriage is of God.  Both men and women need each other.
We won't receive all truth in this world.
We have to be trying throughout the week for our covenants to work on Sunday.
4000 years from Adam to Christ.
I need to make a list of my weaknesses.

I'm going to do this.

We need to build our foundation on the Saviour.
They served their mission in Bountiful then Gid then Mulek and so on.
Many were baptized.
8000 Lamanites were baptized.

October 2011 'The power of Scripture'  Richard G Scott

We're given tools to help us in this life.  One of those tools is the scriptures.
Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high.
Their use provides a foundation of truth that can be awakened by the Holy Ghost.
Great power can come from memorizing scripture.
Scriptures can calm an agitated soul, giving peace, love and a restoration of confidence in ones ability to overcome the challenges of life.

DAUGHTERS OF MY KINGDOM

Chapter 9

Motherhood is near to divinity.  It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind.  It places her who honours it's holy calling and service next to angels.
Hold your heads high, you wives, mothers, homemakers.
You engender life and enrich it.  Don't trade that pervasive force for fleeting, surface trinkets.
Cherish it, enlarge it, magnify it.  You hold a mighty office.
No other success can compensate for failure in the home.
We call upon the women of the church to stand together for righteousness.
A child needs a mother more than all the things money can buy.  Spending time with your children is the greatest gift of all.

Saturday morning 'As we meet again'  President Monson

48 years he's been an apostle.  October 1963 he was called by David O McKay.
There's a new temple being built in the old Provo tabernacle that burned down.  It'll be Provo's second temple to accommodate all the people.
We have a General Temple Patron Assistance Fund to help people go once, who  can't afford it, to the Temple.
I think this is awesome.  I think it's great that we who are rich can help the poorer to get to the Temple at least once so they can be sealed and so forth.
I think it's great that a programme like this has been put fourth so those of us with much can help those with not as much.

DAUGHTERS OF OUR KINGDOM

Chapter 9

There is an art to being a homemaker.  We need to maintain cleanliness and order in our homes.
Mother should create a climate for spiritual and temporal growth in their homes.
Another word for nurturing is homemaking.
Cooking, washing, keeping order.
Home is where woman have the most power and influence; therefore, LDS women should be the best homemakers in the world.
So far I love this chapter.  I think it's great for me to be reading things like this.  So many people think being a homemaker isn't enough yet I know that to Heavenly Father it's the most important.  It's my job to be the protector and the right influence on the home.  I love that this is my job.  Sure it's a lot to have on my shoulders, yet it gives me a sense of pride and purpose to be doing this for my family.  It makes me feel like I'm just as important in this family as anyone else.  That my role has everything to do with how the family does as well as Dru's side of it.  I really feel blessed that Dru supports me in being home with the kids.  He loves me being at home as much as I do.
I appreciate that.
I like that I know my place and I love my place.

NEW TESTAMENT

1Corinthians 4-6
Manual Chapter 35

Paul's 3rd mission was set to order the branches of the church under his care.  In 3 years he went through Taurus mountains, past lakes of Pisidia to Ephesus on Aegean coast ship to Troas and Philippi onto Thessalonia and down the Macedonian Peninsula to Corinth.
He was visited by Abel, Enoch and taught by them.
Corinth had a worldwide reputation in the ancient world for it's immorality.  Located close to two major ports it was subject to many vices.
Corinth was the site of the famous temple of Aphrodite Venus.  1000's of 'preistessess' who were simply prostitutes.
This is why Paul talks so much about being clean.
If we make it in righteousness we're better than Angels who haven't progressed that far yet.

The fall provided a way for the family to grow.
The Atonement allows for the family to be sealed together eternally.
The Lord will open a way.  Even when we can't see any possible way.
This means a lot to me right now and really hit home since Dru can't find full time work.
I know I need to trust the Lord and trust that he will help us to find a way, even though I can't really see a way at the moment.
We need to speak wisdom to our kids and avoid fault finding.
I also need to always speak well of Dru infront of the children.
I can do better with fault finding in my kids.  I don't think I'm bad but I'm not 100% and I know I shouldn't.  Sometimes I say 'You're being lazy' and I need to change that kind've talk.
I think I do a good job of always speaking well of Dru to the children.
Sometimes Dru and I have 'words' infront of the kids and we shouldn't.  I need to leave it till they're in bed or work out a way to simply 'talk' about it without getting fired up.
Easier said than done ;)

NEW TESTAMENT

Chapter 34 of the Manual

3 dangers that threaten the church are:
#1 Flattery of prominent men in the world
#2 False educational ideas
#3 Sexual impurity
Paul's 3rd mission was the longest.  Four years and the most distance covered.
Ephesus was the head quarters for 3 of the 4 year mission.  One of his focuses was collecting funds for the poor in Jerusalem.  Women can prophesy, receive visions, entertain angels, enjoy the gifts of the spirit and qualify with their husbands for full exaltation in the highest heaven.
Paul wrote the letters to Corinth around Mar/Apr AD 57.
Truth only comes from the Spirit.

BOOK OF MORMON

Helaman 2

Helaman filled the judgment seat.
Gadiantan is introduced.  He becomes the leader of the Kishkumen group, promising power and leadership if he's put in power.
Kishkumen went to kill Helaman but was killed himself.
When Gadianton realized that Kishkumen had been gone too long he lead his group of followers a secret way out of the city so they couldn't be killed.
End of the 42nd year.

'Family'

Coming to earth as a member of a family is part of the plan of Salvation.
We need to be having couple and family prayer, FHE, scripture study, attending church and families activities together.

DAUGHTERS IN MY KINGDOM

Chapter 9

"You are the guardians of the hearth.  You are the bearers of the children.  You are they who nurture them and establish within them the habits of their lives.  No other work reaches so close to divinity as does the nurturing of the sons and daughters of God"
"Mothers are the heart and soul of any family"

This really hit home to me as I read this.  Especially the 'Guardian of the Hearth' part.
I sat there and just pondered what that truly means as a mother these days and felt the spirit so strong that I need to be the defender for my children when it comes to our home.
I need to be willing to fight for my children's innocence as well as their purity.
I need to do all I can to give them the kind of guidelines they need to live a faith filled life with a strong sense of self as well as Jesus being their saviour.
I'd like this saying make into a necklace or braclet or some kind've fridge magnet.
Hmmmmmm
I need to get on it.

3:16&17 This is all about the Word of Wisdom

BOOK OF MORMON

Helaman 1

40th year and the Nephites were rumbling.  Pahoran died and his 3 sons wanted to take the judgment seat over, so this caused a 3 way division.  Pahoran was chosen and Pacumeni was fine with it but Paanchi was not.  He was put to death because he wanted to cause a rebellion.
Kishkumen was sent by the mob and killed Pahoran.
He was never found out.  Pacumeni was the new Governor.
In the 41st year the Lamanites wanted to fight.
Coriantumur did take over Zarahemla and slayed Pacumeni.
He also wanted to take over Bountiful but Moroniah caught wind of it and sent Lehi's army to stop them.
Coriantumur died and the Lamanites were surrounded and surrendered.
This was the end of the 41st year.
Man a lot happened.
How exhausting.

Nothing can fully take the place of the blessed relationship of family life.
Give your child a compliment and hug.
Say 'I love you' more.
Always express thanks.
Call upon your Heavenly Father for help as you care for your childrens needs each day and as you deal with the challenges which inevitably come with parenthood.  You need more than your own wisdom in rearing them.
May our families and homes be filled with love: love of each other, love of the gospel, love of our fellowman, and love of our Saviour.  As a result, heaven will be a little closer here on earth.
May we make of our homes sanctuaries to which our family members will ever want to return.

Chapter 8

All Heavenly Fathers sons and daughters are equally blessed as they draw upon the power of the priesthood.
The priesthood is not owned or embodied in those who hold it.  It is held in a sacred trust to be used for the benefit of men, women and children alike.
Men have no greater claim than women upon the blessing that issue from the priesthood and accompany it's possession.
Because LDS women have received the gift of the Holy Ghost they can seek and be blessed by spiritual gifts.
The family and the home are the foundation of the righteous life.

14 letters we have in the New Testament.  Other letters included were written by Peter, James, John and maybe the successor of Pete and Jude.

Acts 15:36

Paul had a problem with taking John Mark on a mission and there was a little contention.
I think this is funny it is mentioned.

Acts 16

They were forbidden to preach word in Asia by the Holy Ghost.
Paul had a vision that a man in Macedonia needed him.
Lydia was baptized.
Paul and Silas get arrested.
They were whipped and sent to jail.
Then there was an earthquake.
The guard thought they'd escaped and wanted to kill himself but Paul said not to cause they were all still there.
The guard was so grateful and was baptized.
They were let go and visited Lydia and then left the city.

Acts 17

They keep doing missionary work.
Many Greeks believed both men and women.
Jews keep coming and stirring up the people.
There was idol worship going on.
Dionysius and Damanris believed and were baptized.
I don't know why this man and woman were specifically mentioned but I wonder if they did something great later on or something?

BOOK OF MORMON

Alma 55

Moroni was upset at this letter in return to his.  He refused to exchange prisoners.  He started making plans to rescue the Nephite prisoners.
Laman sneaked in with wine to the guards and got them so drunk they passed out.
Moroni went in to the city of Gid and gave all the Nephite prisoners weapons in case the guards woke up at any stage.  Then they surrounded all the Lamanites  and they realized it when they woke up in the morning.
Moroni took them prisoner then next day.
He put the Lamanites to work strengthening the city of Gid.
The Lamanites tried to trap them but it never worked.
Moroni then wants to attack the city of Morianton.
I think Moroni has a slight temper.  I like him.  He's also got the back up of the Lord in whatever he does.

I think this is easier said than done.  Learn to love work?  Man I'm so lazy at heart that this concept is so tough for me.  Some things are easier than others.
Acquire a spirit of self-sacrifice.
Accept personal responsibility for spiritual strength.
Accept personal responsibility for health, education, employment, finances, food and other life-sustaning necessities.

Pray for faith and courage to meet challenges that come.

If you don't work, your kids starve!
This is the motivation that the early women of the church had to work hard and learn how to store food for later times.
After learning how to store this wheat they were able to give some to Inidans, and people in CA after the earthquake in 1906, to China in 1907 and in World War 1 they sold 200,000 bushels to the US government.

One of the women who became a doctor and helped birth children said the following.

Here we go

So I've created this blog to make into a book at the end of the year.
I've really enjoyed reading my scriptures over the past couple of years, yet haven't really written down all that I've learned and the spirit I've felt as well as the ideas and thoughts I've had when studying them.
My guess is this is probably important for my kids as well.
So I'm gonna try and start.
I'm reading a few different things in my studies.
#1 New Testament
#2 Book of Mormon
#3 This months Ensign
#4 Conference Ensign
#5 The Relief Society women's book
I guess I"ll put labels on all of these, and each time I post I can put them in their proper lables.  I might title the topics just so as well and see how that goes first of all.
I think it'd also be good to have different topics of the gospel as well.
For example.
THIS MONTHS ENSIGN ARTICLE
Faith
So we've got a good idea of what I"m talking about.
Then have it in labels at the side of this blog.
When I print out the book, hopefully I can make a table of contents that will help with the topics as well.
I can type faster than I can write, so I figured a blog was the best way to do it.
We'll see I guess.
I'm sorry I didn't start this earlier.
It makes me sad.
Reading the scriptures has really helped me in my life.
My patriarchal blessing talks about it as well and how I need to study them and love them.
I really do.
They're fantastic.
So today's the first day of the rest of my life right?
Let's begin.
