NEW TESTAMENT

Acts 13-15

Paul's influence on the world was large.
Paul was chosen and so are we.
Part of being chosen is service and missionary work.
Paul's first mission he established a branch from nothing.
False prophets always arise to oppose the true ones.
Circumcision was to be at the age of 8 days old.
This was as a reminder of God's covenant with Abraham.
The curse of Adam was taken by Christ, so circumcision was no longer needed.
Paul preached to all Jews that circumcision wasn't necessary anymore.

BOOK OF MORMON

Alma 54

Moroni had taken zero women and children prisoners but the Lamanites took women and children as part of their prisioners.
Moroni writes an awesome letter to Ammoron to exchange prisoners.  One of Ammoron's men for a family of Nephites and if he doesn't exchange he'll battle.
Ammoron didn't like the letter and just asked Moroni to surrender but he ok'ed the exchange of prisoners.

ENSIGN

Article - Island of Faith

These people make their own Island to live on.
Every 10 to 15 days they add more reeds, otherwise the Island would slowly fail.
Diligence is persisting in doing something in spit of opposition.
When we forget God, things get complicated.  There are more problems and things begin to fall apart.
I liked this and didn't think about my life quite like this.  But when I involve God in my life, things seem to be that much easier to handle.  I need to remember to keep God in my life, so whatever challenges com my way, I can have a spirit filled attitude about it.

Becoming Self reliant

Learn to love work and avoid idleness.
I think this is easier said than done.  Learn to love work?  Man I'm so lazy at heart that this concept is so tough for me.  Some things are easier than others.
Acquire a spirit of self-sacrifice.
Accept personal responsibility for spiritual strength.
Accept personal responsibility for health, education, employment, finances, food and other life-sustaning necessities.
This is a concept that we rarely do anymore.
Pray for faith and courage to meet challenges that come.
Strengthen others who need assistance.

If you don't work, your kids starve!
This is the motivation that the early women of the church had to work hard and learn how to store food for later times.
After learning how to store this wheat they were able to give some to Inidans, and people in CA after the earthquake in 1906, to China in 1907 and in World War 1 they sold 200,000 bushels to the US government.

One of the women who became a doctor and helped birth children said the following.
'One of the most touching things about  a birth is that the mothers first concern is about her baby not herself'

1870 the territorial government of Utah gave women the right to vote.  WY was the only other state in the USA that allowed this.
USA took it off of them with plural marriage.
Then they got it back when Utah was granted statehood.
Women's Exponent was a women's newspaper.
42 years it lasted.
Then the Relief Society magazine started.
1971 this and other magazines merged into one called the Ensign.
The Liahona started in 1967 but in mid 1800's church magazine were being published in other languages.
1987 visiting teaching messages were published.
1870 Young Women's started.
1878 Primary Started.
1880 there were three different general presidencies for these callings instead of it all being under the Relief Society.

'By seeking to perform every duty you will find that your capacity will increase, and you will be astonished at what you can accomplish'
I have to believe this is true.
